How to Check Shutter Count Manually: A Step-by-Step Guide
While online tools like MyShutterCount are the fastest way to check your actuations, sometimes you might want to know how to find this information yourself. Here is how you can do it on different systems.
1. On Windows using PhotoMe
PhotoMe is a powerful EXIF data viewer. Simply open your last unedited JPEG or RAW file, and search for the "Shutter Count" or "Image Number" field under the manufacturer-specific tags.
2. On macOS using Preview
Apple makes it relatively easy. Open your image in Preview, go to Tools > Show Inspector (or Cmd+I). Click the "i" icon, then click the "Exif" or "Nikon/Canon" tab. The shutter count is often listed there as "Image Number".
3. Linux Command Line
If you are a Linux user, exiftool is your best friend. Run the following command:
exiftool -ShutterCount filename.jpg
Keep in mind that some manufacturers (like Sony or newer Canon models) make it much harder to find this data without specialized software.
